An Indian doctor has raped a Moroccan woman at an intensive care unit in Old Goa, the Times of India reported on Saturday.
Police arrested the doctor, identified as Vrushab Doshi, for allegedly raping the 24-year-old woman in Goa, a state in western India.
“A team was formed, and Doshi was tracked in Solaput and was arrested in the alleged rape case. We have registered an FIR against him under various sections of BNS,” Times of India quoted a police officer as saying.
The Moroccan is in India on a business visa and arrived in Goa to attend a training program along with a delegation at Divar Island.
The victim developed health issues, which led her to Healthway Hospital for examination. The doctor allegedly raped her on August 31 at the hospital, where she was in a vulnerable condition due to her health issue.
The complainant said that Doshi touched her in her “private area,” with the doctor claiming it was part of a neurological sensitivity examination.
The Times of India reported the hospital as saying that the doctor has been suspended from duties pending further investigation.
In regard to the victim, the hospital stated that she “she continues to undergo treatment at Healthway Hospitals’ Old Goa facility,” according to the news outlet.
The medical facility also extended assistance to the victim, stating that it will continue to provide “all moral and logistical support.”
According to statistics, sexual assault continues to be a consistently rampant problem in India. In 2022, India’s National Crime Records Bureau reported 3,1516 rape cases in the country that year. According to CNN, this represents an average of 86 reports of rape per day.

Dignity4Patients Commentary: Vulnerable & sedated patients in hospitals rely on the #Integrity, #Protection and #Professionalism of those around them. When a predator disguises abuse as part of a “neurological sensitivity examination,” it’s a deliberate #exploitation of medical authority and patient helplessness. Hospitals must enforce strict #oversight, chaperone policies, and #zerotolerance for #misconduct to ensure that medical #vulnerability is never taken advantage of.
