By Aqra Bil Malti- 20/01/2026- TVM News- [Malta]

The Medical Council of Malta said it has been informed of a case involving a 37-year-old doctor who was charged last week with downloading child sexual abuse content from the internet.

The doctor, whose identity cannot be published by court order, is denying the charges, including the allegation that he accessed the content on his personal computer.

Asked by TVM News whether any action had been taken, the Medical Council said an official investigation is currently underway and, at this stage, no further information can be provided.

The Medical Council of Malta is the regulatory authority for doctors and dentists. No doctor or dentist may practise in Malta unless they are registered with the council, which also has the power to strike professionals off the medical register.

Dignity4Patients Commentary: A Doctor's conduct outside of the professional setting should reflect the expected conduct of their profession. When a patient seeks help from a medical professional, they place their trust in the practitioner due to their #DutyOfCare and #CodeOfConduct. Behaviour which is inconsistent with the standards expected of a medical professional raise serious ethical flags.
