Doctor set to be sentenced for numerous child sex crimes

By Jordan Gartner - WDBJ7 News - 24.04.2025 [USA] - [Matt Elza Hipke] A Texas doctor who pleaded guilty to child sex crimes earlier this month was found dead Tuesday.
Matt Elza Hipke, 62, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child on April 2. Authorities said his body was found by Gregg County Sheriff’s Office investigators just weeks later.
According to the sheriff’s office, Hipke was pronounced dead at the scene in a Bella Terra subdivision in north Longview.
Authorities did not immediately say how Hipke died, but they did note that there is no threat to the public and that an autopsy has been ordered.
Hipke was accused of numerous crimes relating to child sex abuse dating back to 2017, including sex abuse with a victim who was under 14 years of age.
Hipke had been scheduled for sentencing on an aggravated sexual assault charge Friday.
