An instructor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center was charged with 13 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in Sumner County.
According to documents from the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, 48-year-old Kevin Preece was booked Thursday shortly before 2:30 p.m. on the charges. Documents said the offense happened in September 2025.
An affidavit revealed the SCSO received a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline. The report alleged a user had uploaded and shared images suspected to contain child sexual abuse material.
In all, officers reviewed 15 files. The social media platform provided records identifying the source of the uploads and records from a cellular provider and email platform connected the source to Preece.
After a search warrant was executed on Preece’s home, officials interviewed him. The affidavit stated Preece “acknowledged use” of an email address and usernames associated with the content.
Preece was listed as an instructor of clinical anesthesiology at VUMC.
“After learning of his arrest, Vanderbilt University Medical Center immediately placed Dr. Preece on administrative leave,” a VUMC spokesperson wrote in a statement to News 2. “He is a part time employee who worked on a very small number of adult cases. He is not permitted to practice at VUMC pending further review.”
As of publication, Preece is being held in the Sumner County Jail on a $1,150,000 bond. Preece is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on Feb. 9.
No other information was immediately released.
