The investigations began following complaints filed by the victims, who reported having suffered touching and sexually-oriented behavior during medical consultations with the doctor in his professional office.
National Police agents have arrested a 58-year-old man in the Gran Canaria municipality of Telde, a registered physician, as the alleged perpetrator of two counts of sexual assault committed against two of his patients in the course of his professional activity.
The investigations began following complaints filed by the victims, who reported having suffered touching and behavior of a sexual nature during medical consultations with the doctor in his professional office.
The reported events took place between October 2024 and April 2025, when the detainee, taking advantage of his position as a doctor and under the pretext of carrying out assessments related to weight loss treatments, allegedly performed sexual acts on both women without their consent.
The content of the statements collected by the investigators made it possible to determine that the doctor acted with a clear abuse of his professional position, generating in the victims a state of paralysis and confusion in the face of the situation, without the capacity for immediate reaction.
Police investigations also confirmed that the arrested man had already been arrested and convicted in 2010 for similar acts, having been given a restraining order at the time, which he violated again years later, which is why he was arrested again in 2016.
The detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, while the investigation remains open due to the possibility that there are other people affected.
The Family and Women's Care Unit (UFAM) of the Telde Local Police Station has enabled the telephone numbers 928 704 137 and 928 704 139 so that anyone who may have been a victim of similar events can contact the investigation agents.
If you have been affected by any of the issues raised in this article and were abused in state run medical and health facilities, you can contact Dignity4Patients, whose helpline is open Monday to Thursday, 10am to 4pm.
Dignity4Patients Commentary: Patients deserve safety, accountability, and a system that reacts before more harm is done. When a doctor turns care into exploitation, the entire profession suffers. These allegations in the Canaries are serious and show why #ZeroTolerance and strong oversight are non-negotiable.
